✔️ Pharmacokinetics
Absorption & Distribution:
All three vitamins are well absorbed via the oral route and are widely distributed throughout body tissues, with detectable levels in breast milk.
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine):
- Converted primarily into thiamine diphosphate intracellularly
- Not stored in significant amounts
- Excess is excreted in urine as unchanged thiamine or inactive metabolites
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine):
- Absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and converted to pyridoxal phosphate and pyridoxamine phosphate
- Stored mainly in the liver
- Metabolized to 4-pyridoxic acid and other inactive forms
- Excess is excreted renally, especially at higher doses
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin):
- Absorbed in the ileum in the presence of intrinsic factor
- Stored in the liver and utilized slowly
- Excreted in urine when in excess
